Docksiders Mason Dixon Team Finishes
First Season with Titles
The Docksiders Gymnastics Mason Dixon Team finished off their first season in impressive fashion. The team traveled to Lexington Park, MD to compete in the League Championships and walked away with numerous titles. The winners included 2 All-Around champions and 6 event champions. Their performance helped Docksiders place 2nd in the team competition among the 13 competing clubs in the B division.
Haley Wilson entered the meet with modest goals. The 7th grader at Severna Park Middle was aiming to take home a trophy, meaning she would need to finish in the top 3 in the All-Around. However, Haley nailed all 4 of her routines and was crowned as B division All-Around League Champion for 2008. Included in her performance was a 1st place finish on beam and 2nd place finishes on Bars and Floor. In the B division Severna Park High Junior Sarah Orlich won the championship on vault with a 9.5. She also placed 3rd on beam and finished in 3rd place in the All-Around. Jessi Kuhlman finished off her season in style by taking 2nd on bars, 3rd on beam, and 4th on vault leading to a 3rd place finish. Sarah Watts also finished with her best meet of the season, which resulted in a 2nd place finish on vault.
In the C division Rebecca Jones finished off an impressive season by dominating the championship meet with a 37.9 All Around score to win the League Championships by over a point. Her fantastic performance included a 9.7 to win on floor, a 9.55 for the vault title, and another 9.55 to place 2nd on beam. Rebecca also won the title on bars. Also in the C division, Meade sophomore Kristina Clevinger took 2nd on vault with a 9.4 and 4th on floor with a 9.45 to lead to a 4th place All-Around finish. Docksiders looks for a bigger and better season next year for this new program. Mason Dixon has really taken off at the gym and the girls are excited to build on the success of this year. The program provides a competitive avenue for those very talented gymnasts who do not want the intensity of the USAG program. Their success this year has paved the way for a fabulous future!!
