Docksiders Level 10’s Start off the Season

with a Huge Team Win!

Saturday November 17th officially kicked off the 2007-08 competitive gymnastics season for the Teams of Docksiders Gymnastics. While the Level 7–10 teams traveled to Fredericksburg, VA for the Commonwealth Cup the compulsory girls hiked up to Churchville, MD for the Harvest Fest and our boy’s teams competed at the Tim Weaver Invitational in Hanover, Pa. The weekend was very successful for Docksiders who walked away with 3 All-Around Champions, first, second, and third place team Victories, and numerous individual Champions.

At the Commonwealth Cup, hosted by Paragon Gymnastics, the Level 10 team showed awesome camaraderie as well as incredible skill power for an early season Team Championship. Heather Atwood, the youngest gymnast on the Docksiders Level 10 team at 13 years old, took the All-Around Title in the junior age group with her best meet to date scoring a 36.85. She displayed great poise and loads of confidence to start her season off with a bang. Coming in 2nd All-Around in the junior age group was Brianna Guy who scored a 36.60. In the Individual events in the junior age group Brianna Guy took 1st on Vault and Balance Beam with a 9.40 and a 9.55 respectively as well as a 3rd place finish on Bars with an 8.65. Heather Atwood took 1st on Uneven Bars with an 8.95, 2nd on Vault with a 9.20, 3rd on Balance Beam with a 9.35, and 3rd on Floor Exercise with a 9.35. Stephanie Ouellette took 2nd place on Floor Exercise with a 9.45 performing her new floor routine to a Gloria Estefan Mix. She also placed 3rd on Vault with a 9.125.

In the Senior Age group Rachel Fincham was just edged out of the All-Around title and settled for 2nd place overall with the score 36.725. She also took 1st on Bars with the high score of 9.5, 2nd on Vault with a 9.40, and 3rd on Balance Beam with a 9.20. Toi Garcia, who was competing in her first meet back after a serious injury she sustained on Vault at the Parkettes Invitational last January, walked out with a victory on Vault scoring a 9.50. The 1st place finish had to feel AWESOME for both her and her parents who were both in attendance! Toi also captured 2nd place on Uneven Bars with a 9.25.

Other Level 10’s competing for the team were Melanie Brother, Alexis Gross, Sarah Meikeljohn, Courtney Shelsby, and Lilly Siems.

The Level 9 Team finished in 3rd place in the Team competition and also had several champions. In the junior age group Meagan Rotondo won the title of Uneven Bar Champion with an 8.95. In the same age group her teammate Amanda Castle finished in 3rd on Beam and Floor with scores of 9.10 and 9.0 on those events. Amanda also took 3rd in the All-Around with a total score of 34.825. In the senior age group Monica Durham took 1st place on Uneven Bars with a score of 9.20. Chelcie Rosborough also contributed to the Team’s 3rd place win.

For the Level 7 & 8 teams individual awards were hard to come by. Shelby Atwood, competing in the Level 7 division had an incredible beam routine and scored a 9.30 earning her 2nd place. Our Level 8 top finishers were Emily Bowen, who vaulted her way to 2nd place with a 9.05, and Alex Zois who received a 9.0 on Uneven Bars giving her 3rd place.

The next stop for all of the Docksiders girls is our own meet, Christmas on the Chesapeake, which is being held at the Baltimore Convention Center from December 14th-16th. Over 1,700 gymnasts from across the east coast will be participating in the 3 day event that will bring tons of excitement to Baltimore’s Inner Harbor.
