Docksiders Gymnastics Level 9 Team


Wins the State Championships!


      Docksiders Level 8, 9 & 10 Teams competed in the 2010 Maryland State Championships on March 20 & 21st in Frederick, Maryland.  The Level 9 Team won the Team competition 
at their level by the narrow margin of .05. The Level 9’s earned 3 State All-Around Champions, Leah Dunn at Junior A, Alex Zois at Junior B, and Monica Durham at Senior B.  At Level 10, Stephanie Ouellette put together a solid performance winning the All-Around in the Senior B in her last State Meet of her career.  She will be graduating in May and has signed with NC State University for the fall with a Full Gymnastics Scholarship.  This was her 4th Level 10 State All-Around win over her career.  At Level 8, Julia Gielen won the All-Around in the Senior B age division. Docksiders gymnasts won many other individual awards won over the weekend as well.

      The Level 10 top performer was Stephanie Ouellette who scored a 37.10 to win the Senior B age group. She was crowned Uneven Bar Champion with a 9.50 and Balance Beam Champion with a 9.375.  She placed 2nd on Vault with a 9.525.  Stephanie was named to the Maryland State Team (which consists of the top 6 All-Around scored at each level regardless of age groups) and was voted the Level 10 Outstanding Gymnast of the year.  In the same age group Betsy Zander earned the title Floor Champion with a 9.40.  She placed 2nd on Uneven Bars with a 9.15 and 3rd on Vault with a 9.25.  Both Stephanie and Betsy were honored at the meet as graduating Seniors. Betsy will sign her National Letter of Intent in April for a Full Gymnastics Scholarship to George Washington University. In the Senior A age group, Kystal Welsh only competed on Uneven Bars where she scored 9.35 for 2nd place. An ankle injury kept her out of the All-Around, but she has been petitioned to Regionals. In Junior B, Heather Atwood took 1st place on Floor Exercise with a 9.30. She placed 2nd on Vault with a 9.40 and 2nd on Uneven Bars with a 9.10.  Her overall score of 36.15 placed her 3rd in the All-Around.  In the Junior A age group, Emily Bowen, the youngest and newest Level 10, placed 3rd on Floor Exercise with a 9.30.   

   

      At Level 9, Monica Durham won the Senior B All-Around in her final State meet scoring a 36.275. Monica will graduate this May and has plans to attend Ursinus College. She placed 1st on Vault with a 9.60 and 1st on Uneven Bars with a 9.35. She took 3rd on Balance Beam with an 8.95 and was named to the Maryland State Team. In the Senior A age group, Meagan Rotondo placed 3rd All-Around with a 35.475. She placed 2nd on Floor Exercise with a 9.325 and took 3rd on Uneven Bars with an 8.70. In the same age group Emma Staisloff placed 3rd on Floor Exercise with a 9.0. In the Junior B age group Alex Zois took the top place, scoring 36.35 for 1st All-Around and was named to the Maryland State Team. She placed 1st on both Uneven Bars with a 9.25 and 1st on Floor Exercise with a 9.225. The score of 8.80 on Balance Beam put her in 3rd place on that event. Miranda Telmanik came in 2nd place All-Around, right behind Alex with a 36.075. She placed 2nd on Uneven Bars with a 9.225 and 3rd on Floor Exercise with a 9.05.  Leah Dunn had the highest All-Around score for the Level 9 team with a 36.725 which earned her 1st All-Around in the Junior A age group. She placed 1st on Vault with a 9.575 and 3rd on Uneven Bars with a 9.0.  Leah was named to the Maryland State Team for 2010, making it a total of 3 Docksiders gymnast on the Level 9 Maryland State Team.  Contributing to the Level 9 Team win were teammates Noelle DeCesare and Katie Korvin.  

     

      The Level 8 Team had a great meet with 6 girls qualifying to Regionals.  Julia Gielen scored a 35.975 for 1st place All-Around in the Senior B age group. She won Floor Exercise with a 9.40 and placed 2nd on Vault with a 9.225. In the same age group, Elana Spiegler placed 2nd All-Around with a 35.875 and won 1st on Balance Beam with a 9.075. Sarah Hughes placed 3rd on Vault with a 9.20.  In the Senior A age group, Abby  Herschman won Balance Beam with a  9.075 and placed 3rd on Floor Exercise with a 9.30.  Jordan Collins placed 3rd on Floor Exercise in the Junior B age group with the score 9.20.    

      Over the 2 day competition weekend, Docksiders achieved a 1st Place Team win, 5 All-Around Champions,  12 Individual Event Champions, 4 Maryland State Team Members, 3 Graduating Seniors, 1 Outstanding Gymnast Award and 21 gymnasts qualified to Regionals. Pretty Cool! The 2010 Regional Championships for the 9/10’s will take place in Virginia Beach, Virginia on the weekend of April 10 & 11.
