Docksiders, Atwood & Zois Win
All-Around at 2010 Region 7 Championships
Docksiders Gymnastics Level 9 & 10 gymnasts competed
at the 2010 Region 7 Championships held in Chesapeake, Virginia on
April 9-11th. Over the 3 day competition weekend,
five Level 10’s and three Level 9’s qualified for Nationals. In order
to qualify to Nationals, you must place in the top 7 in your age group.
Heather Atwood put together a fabulous meet and won the Level 10
All-Around in the Junior D age group with a 36.825. 
She
placed 3rd on both Vault with a 9.425 and Balance Beam with a 9.325.
Heather Qualified for her first trip to Nationals. Alex Zois had a
standout performance winning the Level 9 All-Around in the Junior 5 age
group with a 36.875. Alex was crowned Regional Champion on Uneven
Bars with a 9.225 and on Balance Beam with a 9.475. Alex was an
alternate to Level 9 Eastern National Championships last year and is
pretty excited to have made the team this year. She is still on a
pretty big high from winning the State All-Around title just 3 weeks
ago. There were also many individual awards won by Docksiders
teammates.
At Level 10, the highest All-Around total for Docksiders was Stephanie Ouellette who scored 37.825. She placed 2nd All-Around in the Senior C age group. She placed 2nd on Floor Exercise with a 9.55, 3rd on Uneven Bars with a 9.30 and 3rd on Balance Beam with a 9.50. Though Stephanie has qualified for her fifth Nationals, she gave up her spot to the 1st alternate in her age group in order to attend her Senior prom which unfortunately falls on the same weekend as Nationals. Regionals was Stephanie’s last competition as a Docksider. She will graduate in May and continue her gymnastics career in the fall at NC
State
University on Full Athletic Scholarship. In the same age group, Betsy
Zander had her career high All-Around score with a 37.225. She
placed 3rd in the All-Around and earned a spot at Nationals. This will
be Betsy’s third appearance at Nationals. She will also graduate in May
and has just signed her National Letter for a Full Athletic Scholarship
to George Washington University. Go Wolfpack and
Colonials!!
In the Senior B age group Alexis Gross placed 4th All-Around with a 37.325. She took 3rd on Uneven Bars with a 9.40. She qualified for her second National Championships. Alexis has made a verbal commitment to Kentucky University for 2011. Krystal Welsh placed 8th All-Around with a 36.60. This put her in the 1st alternate spot. A team member was injured and Krystal was notified that she will now compete on the team for the Senior B age group. This will be her fourth trip to Nationals. She also placed 2nd on Floor Exercise with a 9.575. Krystal has a verbal commitment to Penn State University for 2011.
At Level 9, Monica Durham placed 4th All-Around in the Senior 7 age group with a 36.20. She was crowned Regional Vault Champion with a 9.65 and placed 2nd on Uneven Bars with a 9.35. Monica qualified for her third trip to Eastern Nationals. She will graduate in May with an amazing GPA of weighted 4.61 and will continue competing gymnastics at Ursinus College. Meagan Rotondo qualified for her second Eastern Nationals with a 5th place finish in the All-Around with a 36.075 in the Senior 3 age group. She placed 3rd on Floor Exercise. In the youngest Level 9 age group, Junior 1, Noelle DeCesare was named Regional Uneven Bars Champion with a stellar routine which scored 9.225.
Level 9 Eastern Nationals will be held on April 30 –May 2nd in Charleston, West Virginia. Level Junior Olympic Nationals will be held May 7 & 8 in Dallas, Texas. Best of luck to all the Docksiders!!
